![]() I do not want to reinstall from scratch unless I have messed it up beyond repair and that is the only way to repair it. Shouldn't apt-get dist-upgrade just figure out what to do all by itself by replacing the old packages with the new packages? Presuming it cannot or should not, then how do I recover and finish the upgrade process? Other than that, uninstalling packages and installing new ones should be fair game. I do not want to reboot the laptop or change run-levels unless I have some guarantee that I will always be able to get back into single-user mode and finish the upgrade without having to start a new Debian install from CD's. I am using single-user mode to do the upgrade because I have vague memories of having problems while trying this large of a change while GNOME and/or X are currently running. ![]() But, during the actual install it is failing with the "but it is not installed" error. I expected that the "download-only" mode to download all packages that it should need (seems so from the logs). ![]() See pastebin of upgrade.log.2 for the full log containing the "but it is not installed" errors. deb file is somewhere that could be installed once I can get rid of this error. See pastebin of upgrade.log.1 for the full log of the -download-only step that shows that libglib2 is being downloaded, so I conclude that the. etc/debian_version currently shows 6.0.3 (I don't know if that file changed as a result of the above commands, as I did not look at that file before running the commands).
